PROTECTING DEMOCRACY

When Rose Lounsbury takes a seat in the statehouse, she will fight to protect our democracy.  

She will advocate for an end to gerrymandering. She will push to increase voting rights through simple, proven measures such as same-day voter registration and automatic voter registration. She will demand an end to the unnecessary and undemocratic voter purges and voter suppression tactics that disproportionately affect voters who happen to be young, poor, disabled, elderly, or people of color. She will listen to you, her constituents.

For much of Rose’s life, she thought democracy was a “given” that took care of itself. Rose's perspective changed over the years as she saw the January 6 attempted insurrection, the August 2023 election to take away Ohioans' voting power, and annual attacks on voting rights from our supermajority government.

From extreme partisan gerrymandering to strict voter ID and voter registration laws aimed at disenfranchising young voters, married women, and voters of color, the current Ohio Statehouse has become a textbook example of what happens when lawmakers feel no accountability to the people they are supposed to serve and represent.
